Life Rains
Life Rains is a metaphor for the vast array of experiences, the sublime and the horrible, that life showers down upon all of us. I am intrigued by the fact that, literally and figuratively, people go to great lengths to keep themselves “dry”, to stay out of the rain. The piece suggests that to really live fully and deeply one must, like all living things, stand out under it; that soaking up the rains of life is the only way to truly grow. As the words in the piece state – one must TRUST in the value of the rain, IMMERSE oneself in it in order to GROW. The double-image reflection of the words in the piece represents the difficult task of looking in the mirror that is required with true immersion in the rains of life. This is a 15ft high piece that one can stand in or lie under.
